xlv. HANCOCK, Herbie: I Have a Dream

xlv. HANCOCK, Herbie (1940-       )

I Have a Dream (1969)
HH, piano
Johnny Coles, flugelhorn
Garnett Brown, trombone
Tony Studd, bass trombone
Joe Henderson, tenor saxophone, alto flute
Hubert Laws, flute
Jerome Richardson, bass clarinet
Buster Williams, bass
Tootie Heath, drums
(10:58)

Hancock dedicated the album to the then recently martyred Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

There is a full richness to Herbie's writing here. The long head is beautifully scored for a large ensemble which features the colors of flugelhorn, alto flute, bass clarinet and bass trombone, amongst its many tone-colors.

Herbie takes the first solo, followed by Coles and Henderson.

The last two minutes are scored for the ensemble.
