cxcviii. MODERN JAZZ QUARTET: La Ronde Suite

cxcviii. MODERN JAZZ QUARTET

La Ronde Suite (1956)
Milt Jackson, vibraphone
John Lewis, piano
Percy Heath, bass
Kenny Clarke, drums
(9:36)

from Django.

The MJQ -- a unique phenomenon in the history of jazz -- grew out of Dizzy Gillespie's band in the mid-40's and became an ensemble in the early 50's.

One Bass Hit -- a vehicle for the young bass player of Dizzy's band, Ray Brown -- is shown here in a video from 1946 ... in this suite, it is reprised by Heath.

Two Bass Hit -- a Lewis composition -- emerged as a vehicle for Miles, as heard here on Milestones (1958).
