dccviii. ZAPPA, Frank: Willie the Pimp

dccviii. ZAPPA, Frank (1940-1993)

Willie the Pimp (1969)
FZ, guitar, octave bass, percussion
Ian Underwood, keyboards, woodwinds
Captain Beefheart, vocals
Max Bennett, bass
John Guerin, drums
Don "Sugarcane" Harris, violin
(9:23)

Naturally there's a story behind the title:

from: Mystery Disc (1998)

A monochordal (A Minor) piece, one of Zappa's finest guitar solos creeps in and out of the final Beefheart vocals -- and goes on for eight minutes!

The brilliance of the solo lies in Frank's ability to transform each eight- or sixteen-bar section with the addition of new intervals, new rhythms, and a funky sense of attitude!

I'm a little pimp with my hair gassed back
Pair a khaki pants with my shoe shined black

Got a little lady ... walk the street
Tellin' a the boys that she can't be beat

Twenny dollah bill (I can set you straight)
Meet me onna corner boy 'n don't be late

Man in a suit with a bow-tie neck
Wanna buy a grunt with a third party check

Standin' onna porch of the Lido Hotel
Floozies in the lobby love the way I sell

Hot meat
Hot rats
Hot cats
Hot ritz
Hot roots
Hot soos

Hot meat
Hot rats
Hot cats
Hot zitz
Hot roots
Hot soots
