The sad story of Tommy Quickly

Brian Epstein might have pushed too hard. Having severed Tommy from his old band and paired him with The Remo Four, he thought he'd have him hit the charts with a Lennon/McCartney original, Tip of my Tongue (to date, undiscovered as a Beatles recording).

It flopped, big-time.

As did his next four singles. The fifth ("Wild Side of Life") actually charted, and again Epstein asked John and Paul if they'd give him a song.

No Reply was that song. When Quickly failed to quickly perform or record it, John and Paul took it back, and this time recorded it themselves.

Quickly gave up the biz the next year, and later had a nervous breakdown.
