dcccxxxvi. GANGER, Ted: Okay

dcccxxxvi. GANGER, Ted

Okay (2020)
TG, voice, piano
(5:26)

Ted is a brilliant songwriter and lyricist.

As one example of neat composition, notice how the minor 7th (B-Flat) becomes major (B-Natural) after the opening eight bars:

A rising melody, ending in a very cool bIII/ii/V/I before it repeats:

Many other examples -- like moving to E Major, the dominant of vi, conveniently preceding a normal ii/V/I.

The piano break is exquisite:

We go through our lives
And hope we're getting closer
To the prize

But sometimes
It don't turn out that way

Still, we keep lurching on
And though the endless search
May not be worth it
It gets us through the day

Things will get worse
Or else they will get better
It may be curse or blessing
In the end we'll see
It really doesn't matter

Let me tell you now
We may think we're making it
But deep inside
We may be only faking it
Perhaps it's just a game
We try to play
And it's okay

Well, sometimes we laugh
And sometimes we cry
And sometimes it's both
And we don't know why

We live day to day
Till one day we die
All the highs and lows
That's the way it goes
It's all okay

All the thrills we crave
And all the joys we try to save
We're going to lose them
That's just the price we pay

Someone dies
Someone is taken
Someone else just turns around and walks away
We cannot make them stay

So many things we think we need
We don't though
So many signs we think we'll heed
We won't

We'll go wherever life will lead us
No denying it
All the pain, the disappointments
All the slings and arrows of our Everyday

At last we must accept it all
And simply say
Okay
