dxxi. METHENY, Pat: Upojenie

Upojenie (2008)
PM, guitar
Anna Maria Jopek, vocals

Marek Napiorkowski, guitar
Henryk Miskiewicz, soprano saxophone
Darek Oleszkiewica, bass

Pat collaborates. Since the 80's, he's recorded with anyone and everyone, in styles ranging from intimate duets with Jim Hall, amazing jazz trios with various bass players and drummers, and recently with John Zorn and Dave Liebman.

This 2002 collaboration (released in '08) with the Polish singer Anna Maria Jopek is stunning. More than half the tracks are non-Metheny covers, including this one, written by Jopek on a poem by Stanislaw Grochowiak.

Translation:

Upojenie (Ecstasy)

There's a wind that opens man's nostrils
The frost, that marbles man's jaws
You're no thyme, no rose to me
You're a dark wind
You're pale frost

There's a rain that changes woman's lips
A shine that exposes woman's thighs
You don't look for my strong arms
You don't need someone you could trust
You just want that rain
You long for that shine

There's a heat the burns lovers' flesh
The death that widens lovers' eyes
There is such death
Here on the dewy glades of joy
The ivory tower rises
Clear as the heat
Smooth as death
