In 2006, Marco Minnemann recorded a 51-minute drum solo, and shared it with other musicians, requesting that they use it as a basis for new compositions that would collectively be known as the Normalizer 2 Project.

Two other musicians made successful recordings of this unusual project: Mike Keneally's Evidence of Humanity and Trey Gunn's Modulator.

Frank Zappa no doubt coined the term Xenochrony, which provides a good definition for this type of project.
